CF:G Reviews... Codecademy
Codecademy is an interactive, online coding educational tool. It teaches users in 3 steps;
1. Showing examples the impact of the code in subject
2. Asking the user to have a go
3. Asking the user to create the code themselves from memory
Ease of Use- Easy to follow. However, the hints could be more relevant to the task in hand
Compatibility-Works on both Macs and Windows
Format- Interactive Workbook
Pace of Learning- HTML will take an hour maximum. CSS possibly around two hours as it goes into great depth, such as Bootstrap. Javascript and Python around two - three hour each. This could be completed over a weekend as an intense crash course.
The Good- By performing each code at least two times it becomes easy to remember. This is great to help build user confidence
The AirBnB example is a very good aspect of the resource. By seeing how an already created website is built step by step is a great way of understanding the power of code
The Bad- The hints sometimes do not match up with the task in hand and there is no clear way to go back to the lesson to understand where you are going wrong. Usually clicking one of the progress circles at the top helps the user get back the lesson.

Overall, a great resource. It can be used as an intensive crash course for those who have an idea and want to develop it. It is not patronising, but its repetitive nature’s use is dependent on the user. I find it useful as it helps to ingrain the code into my memory, but I can imagine it being tiresome for other users. The use of AirBnB is excellent, this is not only for confidence but also quality; users are able to visually see their progress to the end goal.
