Hack Your Tech Career with BofAML- Tuesday 4 June, 6.00-8.30pm (London)

An interactive workshop targeted at young women and non-binary individuals who are studying or have finished their studies (school, university or college) and are making their first steps in the world of work. It will provide an opportunity to learn how to manage your online profile, get advice from those already working in tech and extend your network.

Agile MasterClass at Aviva Digital Garage - Thursday 30 May, 6.30 - 9.00pm (London)

Always wanted to learn more about Agile but don't know where to start? Scrum only made sense to you in rugby terms? This is your chance to learn a bit more at our Agile Methodology MasterClass where in a couple of hours we will do our best to shine some light on all the basics, from Waterfall to Scrum lifecycles. 

Code First: Girls Northern Conference 2019 - Tuesday 7 May, 3.00 - 8.30pm (Manchester)

Join us for a half-day packed full of illuminating tech talks, networking opportunities and to get a chance to hear what tech companies are looking for in candidates. Whether you are looking to become a developer or just want to see whether it could be for you, the event will give you an insight into the world of technology, as well as inform you on how you can break your way in.

Amazing CF:G Instructors' MasterClass - Tuesday 23 April 6.00 -8.30pm (London)

For the first time, an instructor-only MasterClass will be held at Twitter UK's headquarters. This two-hour event will provide an opportunity to learn some tricks and tips about class management, voice your ideas about our syllabus and meet with your fellow volunteers. 

2018

Code First: Girls & Bank of America Merrill Lynch FinTech Mentoring Scheme 2018/19

We're really excited to announce that we're relaunching the Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML) / CFG FinTech mentoring scheme. This is an in-person mentoring programme. We had places in London and Dublin for women interested in a FinTech career to meet a female BofAML employee once a month for 4 months. ​

Bank of America Merrill Lynch partnered with Code First: Girls to host a Hack Your Career - Tech Launchpad Workshop. The workshop was designed to inspire and educate, showcasing possible career opportunities technology has to offer, whilst extending your network and getting advice from those already working in tech. The event provided ample opportunity to network with a range of like-minded people; develop an elevator pitch to communicate “your brand” and your career goals.

Hack Your Career Launchpad Workshop - Tuesday 24th July, 6:30-8:30pm (London​)

​The workshop was hosted by Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML) to map your career path, learn how to prepare for interviews, extend your network and get advice from those already working in tech. During the workshop participants created an elevator pitch to communicate “brand you” and your career goals; 
used mind mapping techniques to plan your career path and prepare for interviews;
networked with a range of like-minded people including BofAML employees, recruitment and tech career practitioners and early career CF: G software engineers.

 CF:G Annual Summer Party! - Tuesday 17th July, 6:00-8:30pm (London​)

 Our annual summer party was kindly hosted again this year by our 2020 partner Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML). We celebrated all the wonderful things we've achieved over the last year and talk about future plans. We met some of our amazing instructors, ambassadors and students and enjoyed a barbecue and drinks with some breathtaking views from the spectacular BofAML rooftop terrace. 

Hack your career in Tech investing! - Thursday 7th June, 6:30-8:30pm (London​)

KKR proudly hosted the Code First: Girls ‘Hack Your Career in Tech investing’: an opportunity to learn about the industry, as well as the range of careers and future developments in this fast-paced sector. 

At this event we were joined by an exciting variety of speakers from companies across the tech investment  sector; from start-ups to global private equity firms. We heard more about how they are driving change across the sector.

Our CF: G Northern Conference 2018 was kindly held by PwC. We enjoyed a packed agenda full of insightful panel discussions, illuminating tech talks as well as networking and insight in to the hiring process of tech companies. This year we were kindly hosted again by the wonderful team at Twitter. This year's programme included talks and workshops on everything from Artificial intelligence and Drones, to learning about programming language 'Go' and the 'On Demand' economy.

CF:G Masterclass - A Practical Guide to Git - Tuesday 3rd October, 18.00-20.30 (London)

A two hour workshop kindly hosted at 8th Light and led by three of their crafters, to take the fear out of using Git! It was a practical, hands on session tailored especially for beginners to help them on their coding journey. 

During the workshop attendees learned the best practices in using Git, and ways to safely experiment with their code. The aim was for attendees to walk away with the basic skills of using git as their version control tool, in line with modern software development practices.

CF:G Masterclass in Engineering Thinking ​- Wednesday 6th September, 17.30-20.30 (London)

This session looked at how to deconstruct problems and think creatively about code as a tool to solve those problems. We focused on moving away from asking “what does this do?” and moving towards asking “what can I do with it?”

This masterclass was led by Stephen from Sparta Global and hosted by AND Digital.

Summer Bootcamp - 24th  July - 2nd August - Summer bootcamp (2 weeks, Mondays and Wednesdays, 18.30-20.30)

Our Summer Bootcamp, kindly hosted by Google for StartsUps brought together a group of talented women for a two week mentored bootcamp. There was an amazing range of projects built, from sites to apps and even a game!

We were kindly hosted by our sponsor Bank of America Merrill Lynch for this wonderful Summer Party. We celebrated all the wonderful things we've achieved over the last year and to find out what we've got planned for the next. CF:G Masterclass in UX - Saturday 8th July, 10.00-5.00pm (London)

We were kindly hosted by our friends and previous office space provider ThoughtWorks for this exciting Masterclass in UX. We had the amazing Elizabeth Chesters, a UX Design consultant lead the day. Through group discussion and presentations, attendees created personas, designed prototypes, and developed potential designs for their dream app ideas. 
This masterclass was also sponsored by: WorldPay, Jessica Lovegood, Red Eye, Rosenfeld, Table Digital and What Users Do. 

CF: G Hack Your Career in AR/VR, Tuesday 27th June 2017, 18:00- 20:30 (London)

We were kindly hosted by our friends Blippar London for an amazing panel discussion on AR/VR. We had guest speakers from Vodafone UK, Blippar, Happy Finish and Improbable. In 2016, Goldman Sachs Research projected augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to become an $80 billion market by 2025, equivalent to the desktop PC market today. Both AR and VR are transformative technologies that have the possibility to change all industries from both a consumer engagement and enterprise perspective.

​CF: G Hack Your Career in Trading and Financial Markets, Tuesday 2nd May 2017, 18:00- 20:30 (London)

Our wonderful sponsors Bank of America Merrill Lynch our event. Focusing on the topics of markets and trading we had an amazing panel from different types of companies in the business; Capital Moments, IG Group, Zerado and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, discussing how they are driving change across the sector and how you can be involved. This was 
followed by round table discussions where we could learn more from the speakers and the kind Bank of America Merrill Lynch volunteers on how they got to where they are and what they think about the sector and how it is impacted by tech.

CF:G Hack Your Career in Food Tech, Thursday 20th  April 2017, 18:30 - 20:30 (London)

We were kindly hosted by Just Eat for an amazing panel event on the food tech industry. We had guest speakers from Just Eat, Grub Club, Design by Sol and Deliveroo. Technology has disrupted the food and catering sector and led to widespread innovations which have seen, for instance, developments in online food order and delivery services and more recently the rise of delivery bots. They have irreversibly changed the way we order food, from providing more choice and availability than ever when buying takeaway food to helping us eat more healthy. ​

Our very first CF: G Northern Conference 2017 for our Scottish community was kindly hosted by PWC. CF: G Hack Your Career in Media Tech, Thursday 8th December, 18.30-20.30 (London)

We were kindly hosted by ITV for this exciting panel event with guest speakers from The Guardian, Unruly, Tech Crunch, Global Radio and ITV to  explore the many career opportunities available in MediaTech. With the growth of digital and online, the last few decades have seen a radical change in the way media content is consumed. From music and movies, to news and advertising, many people now find their news stories and entertainment through search engines, social media platforms and apps; and do so mobile phones, games consoles and tablets.

Hack Your Career with LinkedIn, Wednesday 26th October - 18.30-20.00 (London)

We teamed up with  LinkedIn’s Hilal Koc (LinkedIn’s Partner Program Lead for Europe, Middle East & Africa) and ran a workshop with Q&A throughout to help attendees learn more about how to put their best professional foot forward. Topics covered also included establishing a LinkedIn profile to enable and profile professional successes in the best possible way.  

Hack Your Career with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Thursday 13th October- 18.30-20.00 (Dublin, Ireland)

We held our very first Dublin Hack Your Career event with one of our leading sponsors, Bank of America Merrill Lynch. At this exclusive event attendees had the chance to hear from a selection of speakers, each focusing on their specific roles within technology. Think speed-dating meets tech careers fair! Hack Your Career with Accenture, Thursday 22nd September- 18.00-20.30 (Central London)

We teamed up with Accenture and ran a great panel and speed networking event with Accenture experts working in technology, to help our community learn more about the many exciting career opportunities available at Accenture. 

Masterclass in Ethical Hacking - Saturday 3rd September, 10.00-5.00pm (Greater London)

CF: G teamed up with Cybersecurity Challenge, The National Museum of Computing & OWASP experts to teach the CF: G community the basics of ethical hacking in just one day! Alongside learning the basics of ethical hacking, we were also joined by a number of guest speakers already work in the industry who offered advice on how to kickstart a career in Cybersecurity.

Summer Bootcamp - 1st August to 10th August, Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6.30pm-8.30pm,  (London)

Our Summer Bootcamp, kindly hosted by Campus London brought together a group of talented women for a two week mentored bootcamp. There was an amazing range of projects built, from sites to apps and even a game!

Hack Brexit: Creating dialogue & action for a country divided - Saturday 23rd - Sunday 24th July (London)

On the weekend of 23-4 July CF: G joined forces with ThoughtWorks to create tech solutions to drive dialog, unity and positive action beyond Brexit.  Over two days we built 10 projects, read more about them & the weekend here. 

​​PwC & CF: G Kickstart your career in technology! - Friday 1st July (London)

CF: G teamed up with PwC to run a day long event focused on helping you to understand the many exciting career opportunities around tech consultancy and advisory at PwC. From digital strategy to advisory consulting, we had a packed programme of panels, talks, workshops (such as the CV surgery) and networking opportunities.

​Travel Tech, Hack Your Career - Thursday 9th June (London)

In recent years travel, tourism and hospitality companies have had to radically rethink how they incorporate digital as part of their service offer. Some of the most popular Travel Tech startups, such as Uber and Airbnb, have gained multibillion valuations in the space of just a few years. So what is Travel Tech about and what are the career opportunities? Over 80 attendees joined us for our ‘Hack Your Career in Travel Tech’ with Code First: Girls (CF: G), kindly hosted for us at Huckletree.

​Masterclass in UX/UI Design with CF: G & WHFNP - Saturday 4th June (London)

What is UX? Why do we even do it? User Experience is behind everything that we do when we interact with software. It's the emotions of getting frustrated when a field gives us a ridiculous error or the happiness when the page loads in time to tell us we're on time for a train. 

CF: G have teamed up with WHFNP for this Masterclass. Throughout this workshop we'll delve into the mindset of the people using our software, understand their needs and see how we can cater for those. We'll also be creating personas, designing prototypes and develop a potential design for an idea. ​

Inspired by their March cover star Karlie Kloss, ELLE has joined forces with Twitter and Code First: Girls to show how coding can help you find a career in fashion and the creative tech industries. Hosted by ELLE’s Technology Editor Robyn Exton, founder and creator of the app 'Her', CF:G ran an inspiring day of useful coding lessons and hacks, fascinating talks and fun networking at Twitter’s London HQ.​​​

​Hack your Career in FinTech - 3rd December, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, London

​From crowdfunding and contactless payments to BitCoin and Cryptocurrencies, the last few years have seen many exciting developments in the Financial Tech (FinTech) sector. And with London being a key global hub for finance, many of the most exciting developments have been happening right on our doorstep. So what is FinTech about and how can I get involved? What’s exciting in the sector and what’s coming up in the future? These are just some of the topics we covered at our hack your career in FinTech, kindly hosted for us at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.​

Hack Your Career with IBM - 2nd December, Edinburgh

Our first ever Scottish Hack Your Career event offered a unique opportunity to attendees who had the exclusive chance to speak directly to the key players within IBM about their journeys and careers in Technology. There was ample opportunity to network and find out about IBM's graduate and internship opportunities, as well as make some valuable connections. At the event attendees had access to a fantastic range of speakers from IBM, who brought with them a wide and varied set of experiences and skill sets, from sales to product development to architecture. ​​

Hack your Career with Bank of America Merrill Lynch,- 28th October, Chester 

Ever thought about how a company handles billion dollars of transactions per day? Want to find out more on how global companies manage to work over multiple locations? These are just some of questions that employees at Bank of America Merrill Lynch deal with on a day to day basis. Technology drives the changes which keep Bank of America Merrill Lynch ahead of the competition. At this exclusive event attendees had the chance to hear from a selection of speakers each focusing on their specific roles within technology. Think speed-dating meets tech careers fair!​

Summer bootcamp - July 20th to August 7th, London

This is where members of our community get to come together and build all those projects they've been imagining all year. The bootcamp ran over 2 weeks, and had 30+ community members meet up at Google's Campus two evenings a week, to build their products with the support from the amazing Code First: Girls volunteer instructors.​

Hack Your Career with GoCardless - 7th July, London

CF:G had an amazing evening at GoCardless, an innovative FinTech startup that allows businesses to take recurring customer payments, hassle-free, using Direct Debit. They've grown immensely since starting up in 2011, having raised over £10 million in funding! The CF:Gs who attended got to meet people ranging from developers and designers and product managers and their senior business leaders, and hear more about how they came to do what they do.​

Hack your Career  in Fashion Tech- 14th June, Hosted by ASOS, London

Fashion & Retail tech is an incredibly exciting field with e-commerce sites, apps and wearables completely changing the way we shop. What are the career options for someone starting out? Where are the opportunities to start a new fashion & retail tech business? What does it take to succeed in such a competitive industry?


Code First: Girls along with our hosts ASOS brought together a panel of leading fashion and retail tech businesses and professionals from across the industry to give an insight into the challenges of entering the innovative fast paced industry.

Hack Your Career with Twitter - 17th April, London

70 Code First: Girls got the opportunity to hear from some of the impressive twitter bods about why they love working at the global tech company, how they got there and ask them questions about kick starting their tech careers. ​

Hack Your Career with Thoughtworks - 5th March, London

CF:G took a trip to the beautiful offices of ThoughtWorks and heard from 7 of their accomplished female staff about their experiences working in tech and what their advice would be to those just starting out. There was a chance to hear the panel discuss their stories followed by informal chance to ask all their burning questions.

Starting out in Coding with Code First:Girls with Apple Store in Covent Garden - 4th December

CF:G are partnering with the Apple Store in Covent Garden to run a special event as part of the Worldwide Hour of Code Campaign. Join four of the Code First:Girls alumni with backgrounds ranging from Art History to Engineering to hear about their journeys in tech and how learning to code has transformed their career paths.  They'll also be sharing their tips for aspiring female coders on how to break into the tech industry.


Hack Your Career with Bank of America Merrill Lynch - 11th November

Think speed-dating meets tech careers fair! At this event there were several Bank of America employees with different roles in tech ranging from developers to product designers, and you'll get a unique opportunity to speak in depth about what their jobs actually involve!  There'll also be a chance to network with Bank of America executives and employees over drinks and canapés, and of course have a chat with some CF:G representatives.

Hack Your Career with Moonfruit - 13th August 
​

Moonfruit helps people build websites, hassle-free. The company was recently acquired by Yell Group for £23m. The CEO of Moonfruit and their London team will deliver their advice on how to break into the industry and share their top career tips. This is a great opportunity to network with like-minded people and get an insiders' perspective on the industry.

​Summer Hack School (3rd July - 28th August)

This Summer CodeFirst:Girls are hosting our first ever Summer Hack School; an 8 week programme that challenges Code First: Girls alumni to build, code, or create something awesome using skills they learnt on our course, and picking up new ones along the way.
