Want to know what it's like to do a CF:G course? Some CF:G Alumni share their thoughts...
"I joined Code First in my final year of university as I had always loved the idea of working on a start-up and thought learning more about coding was a great way to get involved in the community. The course was great and my favourite part was leaning how to make a rudimentary website using twitter bootstrap. I even impressed my boyfriend with my new skills.
"I had had a few skirmishes with coding before - attempting to adapt the HTML for a Wordpress site and dabbling with some Codeacademy - but it was when a uni friend highly recommended CF:G that I applied. The first course, CSS and HTML, was great because it was so easy to see the progress we were making - our sites looking better and better. For me however the Python course really brought coding to life because of the power of the things we could create. Andreas and James were great in helping us understand what was possible and, once we had decided upon a project, it really spurred us on to experiment and ask questions. It was Electy, the web app we created to help people decide who to vote for, that served as a conversation starter with my new boss at a conference. Having shown persistence and interest there he was willing to take a punt with me and I got my first job as a Software Engineer!"
When I joined CodeFirst my knowledge of computers was limited to pretty much loading Facebook and backing up word documents. I learned so much on the course, from standard web development markup languages like HTML and CSS to how best to organise, write and deploy basic web apps with Git, Sinatra and Ruby. By far the most important skill I gained however, was the confidence to play with tech and throw away my old 'I just don't get computers' mantra.

"Thank you very much! This was a great experience and I hope to continue next term and hopefully accomplish my goal of learning to make an app "
